Gucci Soho Disco Bag Review – Is It Worth Buying?

Gucci recently renamed the infamous Gucci Soho Disco Bag the Gucci Blondie Bag. I don’t know why they went this route, but the structure of the bag looks exactly like a Soho Disco bag—only there is a stitch instead of a plain leather texture. Also, this new bag comes with a hefty price change from $1400 Last year to $1790 this year.

In this Gucci Soho Disco Bag review, I will discuss the quality of this bag, whether it is worth the $1790 price tag, and its usage and styling options. I have this bag in blue, a rare color that you don’t find easily.

My Gucci Sogo Bag was a gift from my sister when I was pregnant in the summer of 2017. She bought this pristine condition bag from a consignment store. The previous owner must have worn the top only 2-3 times. (the price of this bag either $850 or $900 at this time)

The Quality (4.5/5)

I love how quality this bag is. The leather is soft and very durable. The construction of the bag is perfection. It’s very roomy. Although it says, “Do not carry heavy products that may affect the shape of the bag” on gucci.com, I once carried my iPad, Kindle, and Chanel wallet in the same bag. As you know, some bags start to rip off from the strap attachment. It has been 3 years now; I don’t have any problems like that.

According to gucci.com, this bag measures 8.3″W x 6.1″H x 3.1″D. As I mentioned earlier, it is quite roomy to carry two devices: a wallet and lipstick.

It has two pockets inside. One is attached to the back of the bag, and one is attached to the front. The back one has a Gucci Logo attached. I don’t put my phone keys in this pocket to prevent them from scratching my iPhone. And I generally put my lipstick on the one in front. I prefer to keep my phone in the big middle section.

I don’t know how much my sister paid for this second-hand bag since it was a present. What I know is that if I knew how much I was going to use this bag, how comfortable it is, and how good it is, I would have invested in such a good bag.

I almost wore this bag every single day when I was pregnant back in 2017. I still love my bag when I go out during the weekend to meet friends, have brunch, or go for a walk.

I may still buy the one in beige. It is such a beautiful color. We called it “sutlu kahve” in Turkish, which I can translate as “Coffee with milk.” The color is just perfect.

I definitely recommend this bag to whoever wants to buy it but has questions about it. I definitely hear your concerns. It’s not a cheap bag, although it is when you compare it with other stylish ones.

I always do this math when I want to buy a luxury or an expensive item. What is my CPW (cost-per-wear)? Let’s make a quick calculation. When you first buy this bag, you probably want to wear the same bag 3-4 times a week. That period probably lasts for the first three months.

4 wear x 4 weeks = 16 times in a month. 16 x 3 months = 48 wears. I assume you wear it 2 times a week for the rest of the year. 2 x 4 = 8 wears in a month. 8 x 9 = 72 wears the rest of the year. So, in the first year of the bag, you wear it 72 + 48 = 120 times.

$1300 (tax including price) / 120= $10.8 (This calculation was from 2020; the new calculation (2024) result will be $16.23 per wear for your first year of use of this bag.)

Even with the new price jump, I still love this bag because it’s extremely comfortable, sturdy, and holds a lot. It’s a classic now.

This calculation may sound ridiculous but don’t forget that you will own a quality luxury bag and don’t support fast fashion as an owner of a good-quality staple item in your wardrobe. The value you bring is more than what I calculated above.
