Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia return to the runway with a series of designs that pay tribute to the late Oscar de la Renta’s Dominican heritage. The Dominican Republic is known for its warmth, aromatic food, and blue-water beaches. This gorgeous collection mirrors the complexity of this island’s culture without being too on the nose or gimmicky. See our favorite looks in this Oscar de la Renta NYFW Spring 2020 review.

Our Favorite Looks
Playful and chic, this opening look is something I could picture a modern Barbie in. The near nude dress coordinates so well with the structured blazer for a sophisticatedly sexy vibe. I also really enjoy the overall styling of the model with those full beach waves and long stiletto shaped nails.
Now this look definitely captures the de la Renta flair we all know and love. The gown is undeniably gorgeous, especially the skirting which is crafted to resemble a blooming flower. I’m partial to yellow in spring, but this particular shade feels very warm and tropical.
I am completely obsessed with this gown. From the way the fabric floated airily down the runway to the sheer pink sunset composition. All of it is pure perfection. I also like how the bold pink and green eye makeup in this look is a departure from the previously minimalistic style.
Once again, bold eyes accentuate an otherwise bare face. The contrast between the indigenous influence and modern styling is clear, yet balanced. I like how the gown is shaped and how you can faintly see the corset underneath. However, the highlight of this look for me are those divine cowrie shell hoops.
Russian supermodel Irina Shayk closes the Oscar de la Renta NYFW showcase in this ravishing black halter gown in an effortless strut. This is a moment where I’m sure that, if he could see it, Oscar would be extremely proud of the work his successors have done.
